It wasn't a stand out favourite of mine among all the novels I've read, but there were some cool moments and some great locations in the book. I wasn't sure what to expect with this book. Good stuff: this is a cleanly- (and sometimes even well-) written piece of fiction, ingenious and fast-paced. The journey of one girl wading through Hypermodern / Modern books, reading and collecting as she goes, and sharing her insights, tips, foibles, and follies along the way. As a Christmas Present last year, my brother generously gifted me the first two novels of 'The Deepgate Codex Trilogy' by Alan Campbell (he must have been quite confident I would like the first one!). Thanks to the great folks at Bantam Dell, I have three autographed copies of Alan Campbell's Scar Night, the first volume of The Deepgate Codex, for you guys to win. Not quite as good as Scar Night or Iron Angel but enjoyable nonetheless. The series has been absolutely brilliant and I have loved every bit of it but due to Martin's writing style I will be waiting a wee while for the next so in the meantime I would like to start another series. I read the first Campbell book, Scar Night, the first half was atmospheric and moody and set up an interesting place. Scar Night (Deepgate Codex, #1). The Deepgate Codex, Volume 1 (2006). I enjoyed his first series of books although I personally thought that the series slightly struggled to live up to the heights reached the first book. The first is called Scar Night, and I read it while camping on the Coromandel Peninsula over Summer. Some more Ladies Detective agency books (nearly up to date with these now) Just finished God of Clocks, (Clocks I said,) last of the Deepgate Codex trilogy.
